We also often refer to a backend as the ‘brain’ behind the system – it’s this brain that other platforms (e.g. an app or a frontend) relate to and communicate with. In other words, there is a lot of responsibility in the hands of a backend developer – and experience is crucial.

Ever since Makeable started in 2011, we have been developing backends. We’ve helped everyone from Kamstrup to Danish Crown, and today we have around 60-80 custom-developed backends in operation.

In our daily work with backend programming, we use modern development technologies such as PHP, Laravel, Google Firebase, Azure and Node.js.

Since backend development (like everything else in IT and tech) is often developed and renewed, we make a great effort to stay up-to-date. We therefore regularly participate in various courses and conferences to ensure we have the right certifications and knowledge.

Backend development as part of an app project

Backend development is a fundamental part of our app development work. The majority of the apps we develop utilise a custom-built backend that handles advanced algorithms, data processing and security – all necessary to support and secure the app’s functionality.

If you need to make complicated calculations such as distances, manage and process data in databases or handle functions such as sending and viewing messages, the backend is responsible for this logic, while the app simply sends and receives data.

This places responsibility correctly and ensures not only time savings in the project, but also consistency and reliability on the platform.

At Makeable, we have worked with a wide variety of backend programming. We have experience optimising and maintaining existing systems, and we have also acted as a turnkey supplier.

Many of our solutions involve advanced API integration, ensuring that systems can communicate effectively with third-party platforms and other systems.
